When we began this, we didn’t seek competitive bids (having seen how you worked on the garage), and though your bid was more than we expected, we simply assumed it was fair and comprehensive. You had anticipated many details I would not have thought to include in the plan, and budgeted appropriately, so there were not countless change work orders. In nearly every respect, your work has exceeded our expectations. It is abundantly clear that you care about your work, even in places where it may not show. We only felt great trust in you. This has been a fine experience.

Please use us as a reference, the office as part of a portfolio, or as general cheerleaders for Melco Home Design.

  We have known PJ Melanson for 15 years! We were introduced to him when we needed a gutter replaced. Since then, he has enlarged and renovated our kitchen, our master bath and a powder room, transformed a three season porch into a study, as well as added on a bedroom. In addition he has made custom bookshelves. Melco has also done general maintenance of our home.

We are ALWAYS pleased with the work that Melco provides. They are pleasant to work with, trustworthy, use high quality materials and make sure that they clean up at the end of every day of construction or renovation. In addition, they are upfront about the cost of materials and labor, so that there are no “surprises.”

We have recommended Melco to our friends and neighbors and will continue to do so!

 I have been a Melco Home Design client for several years.  I trust PJ Melanson and the company implicitly and have recommended them repeatedly to my friends and neighbors.  I long ago reached the point where I simply do not consider having anyone else do any work on my house.  If something needs to be done or I want something improved, Melco is going to be the company doing it.  

PJ and his team have done everything on my 80+ year old house from routine maintenance to replacement of worn out components to a gut to the studs kitchen remodel and a gut to the studs bathroom remodel that included an addition to the house's second story.  All of the work has been exceptional and has become part of a cohesive whole that PJ and I planned for my home.  

Any reputable contractor could have done the work that I needed done, but what PJ did was truly home design.  His insight into the form, function and appearance of the rooms on which we were working made the end result of the work far more appealing than it would have been without his help.  Although it has been 5 years since my kitchen remodel and 4 years since the addition and remodel of my upstairs bathroom, not a week goes by in which I don't use something in either room and silently thank PJ for both his vision and the quality of his work.

The quality of that work is, quite simply, the best there is.  In today's fast-fix world, I didn't think that pride in and quality of workmanship existed anymore.  Then I met PJ and his team at Melco. My father is a civil engineer and a furniture-quality carpenter.  I grew up moving frequently.  We did major renovation projects on each of the homes that we owned. My father has been at my home during much of the work done by PJ and his team.  As is his style, he's inspected each job.  Every time, his comment has been the same:  "PJ's work is better than I thought it was possible to find today.  I'm not sure I would do some of what I've seen him do."  You probably don't know my father, but trust me, there is no higher praise.

Let me know what you'd like to do about final checkin, final payment, retrieving keys, etc. This has been a long project and you and your crew has done outstanding work. We are really grateful for the beautiful third floor rooms, the completely lovely bathrooms, and the thought and excellent care on all the systems work. As you know, we have been totally happy with the work that you and your crew have done. This has been a big job with lots of complexities along the way. We are so appreciative of your care and attention to detail, not only of aesthetic concerns but also (especially so) structural and functional concerns. We have also been really pleased with the great communication as the project progressed, with the many change orders and spontaneous improvements along the way. Overall this has been a fantastic experience and we will gladly recommend you and your teams to our friends and colleagues.

I appreciate that you were sensitive to coming across as being pushy about the windows. I want to tell you, PJ, that in working with you we see that we can really respect your experience and your obvious care for doing things well and the right way. As a result we put a lot of value in what you observe and recommend. Actually now that it's warming up and the girls and I have been outside around the house I see exactly what you mean about the windows from the basement, and you are exactly right, and this is now in the great long list of things to do. For the moment though we have to juggle budget and immediate needs versus projects that can reasonably be deferred. The basement windows are one of those projects, that we could think about maybe in the fall once we are settled in.... obviously the major reno that the kitchens need are another. Better bet that a few years from now when we are ready for that one you will be hearing from us again!

This is an unsolicited review of Melco Home Design. I had used them some years ago to repair and restore our garage, after I saw the work they did on neighbor's garages. I was pleased with the result, as they did exactly what they said they would do, when the said they would do it. The work was of high quality. This is a father & son team, both of whom do the work, though the son runs the business, and the father, it seems, sets the standards for quality.

Recently, I planned to build a home office in my basement, and called Melco. Their quote was higher than I expected, but I did not look for competitive bids, as I knew them to be fair and responsible. The final project came in very close to budget, and where it went over was due to significant changes in my specs, and the quoted price was inclusive of many details I hadn't considered to include in a detailed estimate. In every detail they exceeded my expectations. Even where elements of the construction might have been hidden from view, there was a clear commitment to 'doing it the right way," which they insisted on from their subcontractors as well. These are the people you would want working for you, as their work ethic is strong, their business ethics are sound, the work quality is tops, they were accountable, kept the worksite clean, stayed in communication, pulled no surprises, and were easy to work with. I am delighted with the result (which I cannot say for my experience with all contractors). T
